Session 2: The Grand Bazaar Incident

Oct 03, 2025

The Grand Bazaar Incident

“Sometimes the most dangerous creatures are the ones that need our help the most.”

A Dragon in Distress

The team’s second day on the job began with an emergency call that would test their compassion and problem-solving skills in ways they never expected. The Grand Bazaar, the city’s bustling central marketplace, had erupted into panic, and the M&M Field Team was needed immediately.

The Scene of Panic

Upon arriving at the Grand Bazaar, the team found a scene of complete chaos. Merchants were fleeing their stalls, customers were running in all directions, and in the center of the main square lay the source of all the commotion: a young green dragon, curled up in what appeared to be a deep slumber.

The dragon was massive compared to the fleeing citizens, but something about its posture suggested it wasn’t sleeping peacefully. The creature seemed to be trembling slightly, and its breathing was shallow and irregular. The team quickly realized this wasn’t a typical dragon encounter - this was a creature in distress.

Securing the Area

The team immediately sprang into action, working to de-escalate the panic and create a safe perimeter around the sleeping dragon. Necromis and Kaeron took charge of crowd control, using their imposing presence to gently but firmly guide the panicked merchants and customers to safety.

“Birb” and “The Untitled” focused on establishing a secure perimeter, ensuring that no one could accidentally disturb the dragon while the team assessed the situation. Their quick thinking and coordination helped restore some semblance of order to the chaotic scene.

The Awakening

As the team worked to secure the area, they noticed the dragon beginning to stir. The creature’s eyes fluttered open, revealing large, anxious eyes that darted around nervously. When the team approached cautiously, the dragon let out a small, frightened whimper and tried to curl up even tighter.

The team quickly realized that this dragon was not a threat - it was terrified. Through gentle gestures and calming words, they managed to communicate with the creature, who introduced himself as Mossy. The young dragon explained that he had become separated from his parents during a violent thunderstorm and had been wandering lost and frightened.

The Fainting Incident

As the team continued to talk with Mossy, “The Untitled” made the mistake of asking about his parents. The question caused the young dragon to become overwhelmed with emotion, and he promptly fainted from distress, collapsing in a heap in the middle of the square.

The team quickly sprang into action, using their combined skills to rouse the unconscious dragon. Necromis used his calming presence to reassure Mossy, while “Birb” used their mysterious powers to help stabilize the dragon’s emotional state. Through their combined efforts, they managed to bring Mossy back to consciousness.

The Flight to Safety

With Mossy awake but still clearly distressed, the team knew they needed to get him to safety. The dragon was too large and too frightened to walk through the city streets, so “The Untitled” and “Birb” volunteered to fly with Mossy to the Field Operations Building.

The flight was tense but successful. Mossy, despite his fear, trusted the team enough to allow them to guide him through the air. The sight of a dragon flying over the city with two small figures clinging to its back was certainly unusual, but it was the safest way to transport the distressed creature.

Meeting with Captain Thornfield

Upon arriving at the Field Operations Building, the team was met by Captain Mildred Thornfield, who was clearly not expecting to see a dragon in her training yard. The debriefing was tense, with the Captain initially reluctant to allow a dragon to remain on the premises.

However, after hearing the team’s explanation and seeing Mossy’s clearly distressed state, Captain Thornfield begrudgingly agreed to provide temporary shelter for the young dragon. She made it clear that this was a temporary arrangement and that the team would be responsible for finding a permanent solution.

The Investigation

With Mossy safely secured in the training yard, the team began the process of trying to help him find his way home. Through careful questioning, they learned that Mossy’s home was in a deep forest near a wide river, with a unique landmark he called the “Sun-Pillar.”

The team was initially stumped by this description, but Kaeron remembered a Dragonborn map from a previous mission. When he produced the map, Necromis, being Dragonborn himself, immediately recognized a landmark labeled “Veyl-Kestrath” and confirmed its translation as “The Sun’s Pillar” - a known draconic nesting ground.

The Breakthrough

This discovery was a major breakthrough. The team now had a confirmed location for Mossy’s home, and they could begin planning how to reunite the young dragon with his parents. The map provided crucial information about the area’s geography and the best routes to reach the Sun-Pillar.

Mossy was overjoyed at the news, though he remained anxious about the journey ahead. The team assured him that they would help him get home safely, and they began making plans for the expedition.

Session Conclusion

As the second session drew to a close, the team had successfully contained a potentially dangerous situation and turned it into an opportunity to help a creature in need. They had learned valuable lessons about compassion, problem-solving, and the importance of looking beyond appearances.

The discovery of Mossy’s home location marked a significant milestone in their mission, and they were now faced with the challenge of planning a journey to reunite a lost dragon with his family. It was a task that would test their skills and determination, but one that they were committed to seeing through to the end.

“Sometimes the most dangerous creatures are the ones that need our help the most. Mossy may be a dragon, but he’s also a scared child who just wants to go home.” - Captain Thornfield

Session 1: The Beginning

Sep 05, 2025

Welcome to the M&M Field Team

“Your first day starts with a garden full of screaming flowers and a tavern in chaos.”

The New Recruits

Fresh from their training, four new agents arrive at the I.C. University to join the Mundane Mayhem & Magical Mischief Containment Team. Little do they know that their first day on the job would begin with immediate action.

The Team

  • Kaeron - A tiefling rogue with perhaps too much enthusiasm for grappling
  • Necromis - A dragonborn barbarian with a calm demeanor
  • “Birb” - A kenku warlock with mysterious powers
  • “The Untitled” - A tiefling bard with a flair for the dramatic

The University Gardens Incident

No sooner had the new recruits arrived at the university than panic erupted across the campus. The University Gardens had become a scene of pure chaos - every single flower had somehow climbed out of the ground and was running around like crazed toddlers, creating a colorful but dangerous situation.

The team was immediately dispatched to contain the situation. Their mission: coral and capture the rogue flowers and re-plant them safely back in the ground.

The Containment Operation

The operation began with careful attempts to gently guide the flowers back to their beds. However, Kaeron proved to be a bit too enthusiastic in their grappling attempts. When they grabbed a handful of the fleeing flowers, the plants let out horrifying screams that echoed across the gardens, followed by a brilliant flash of sparkles and glitter.

Miraculously, despite the dramatic display, the players found themselves completely unharmed by the magical outburst. The glitter settled harmlessly around them as they continued their work.

Through teamwork and determination, the team eventually managed to contain all the rogue flowers and successfully re-plant them in their proper locations. The gardens were restored to their peaceful state, though the memory of screaming flowers would haunt the team for some time.

Meeting Captain Thornfield

With the garden crisis resolved, the team finally had the opportunity to meet Captain Mildred Thornfield, their commanding officer. The introduction was brief but professional, as Captain Thornfield wasted no time in getting the new recruits oriented to their duties.

The team introduced themselves properly, each bringing their unique skills and personalities to the M&M Field Team. Captain Thornfield seemed pleased with their performance in the garden incident, though she noted that perhaps a bit more finesse might be beneficial in future operations.

The Tipping Tankard Crisis

No sooner had the introductions concluded than another emergency call came in. The Tipping Tankard, a popular tavern in the city, had erupted into complete chaos, and the team was needed immediately.

The Scene of Chaos

Upon arriving at the tavern, the team found a scene of absolute pandemonium:

  • Sentient Brooms: The tavern’s brooms had become self-aware and were aggressively trying to do their jobs by “cleaning” up the patrons - essentially trying to sweep them right out the door. They were also attempting to serve drinks, though their broom-like nature made this rather ineffective.

  • Flying Trinkets: A collection of small items - shoes, cutlery, dishes, and other tavern accessories - had taken flight and were zooming around the establishment, being generally obnoxious and dangerous.

  • Exploding Pies: Several pies that had been in the process of being eaten had suddenly become volatile, randomly exploding and leaving pools of sticky goop scattered throughout the tavern.

The Containment Strategy

The team was tasked with getting the situation under control while causing minimal property damage and ensuring no casualties. This required careful planning and creative problem-solving.

The Solution: Through quick thinking, the team discovered that the various animated objects could be neutralized by grappling them and then throwing them into the exploded pie goop. The sticky substance would trap the objects until they eventually settled down and returned to their normal, inanimate state.

The Operation

The team worked together to:

  • Grapple the aggressive brooms and subdue them in the pie goop
  • Capture the flying trinkets and stick them in the sticky mess
  • Contain the remaining animated objects using the same method

Through careful coordination and teamwork, the team successfully restored order to the Tipping Tankard. The patrons were grateful, the property damage was minimal, and the team had successfully completed their first major containment operation.

Session Conclusion

As the first session drew to a close, the team had proven themselves capable of handling the bizarre and chaotic nature of their new job. They had successfully contained two major magical incidents, learned to work together as a team, and gotten their first taste of what life as M&M Field Team agents would be like.

The team had also learned some valuable lessons about the importance of finesse in their approach, the value of creative problem-solving, and the fact that in this line of work, you never quite knew what kind of magical mayhem you might encounter next.

“Well done, team. You’ve handled your first day admirably. Welcome to the M&M Field Team - where every day is an adventure, and every adventure is completely absurd.” - Captain Thornfield

Prologue: The City of Magical Mayhem

Sep 01, 2025

The City of Magical Mayhem

“In a world where magic is real, bureaucracy is eternal, and the most dangerous thing in the city is a talking cabbage with an attitude problem.”

The Great City

Welcome to the bustling metropolis that serves as the heart of magical learning and the epicenter of the most bizarre phenomena in the known world. This is a city where the I.C. University towers over everything, its spires reaching toward a sky that occasionally rains fish, where the streets are paved with good intentions and the occasional sentient cobblestone.

The city has grown around the University over centuries, creating a unique ecosystem where magic and mundane life intertwine in ways that would make a normal person’s head spin. Here, a simple trip to the market might involve dodging a boulder that’s having an existential crisis, or helping a dragon with social anxiety find its way home.

The Mundane Mayhem & Magical Mischief Containment Team

In response to the increasing frequency of magical anomalies, the Grand Arcane Committee for Containment and Curriculum (GACCC) established the M&M Containment Team - a specialized group of agents tasked with dealing with the most bizarre and chaotic magical phenomena that threaten the city’s delicate balance.

The team operates from the Field Operations Building, a structure that has somehow managed to remain standing despite housing creatures that occasionally phase through walls and objects that have developed strong opinions about interior decorating.

Key Organizations

The Grand Arcane Committee for Containment and Curriculum (GACCC)

The governing body that oversees both magical education and containment efforts. Led by Dean Alistair Finch, a stuffy transmuter who believes that everything can be solved with proper paperwork and a well-organized filing system. His ongoing rivalry with Lady Penelope over budget allocations has become legendary, with each trying to outmaneuver the other in increasingly elaborate bureaucratic schemes.

The Board of Trustees (UUBT)

The financial backbone of the University, constantly trying to balance the books while dealing with expenses like “Dragon therapy sessions” and “Sentient furniture relocation services.” They maintain a delicate relationship with the M&M team, appreciating their work while questioning the necessity of some of their more… creative solutions.

The Bureau of Magical Sanitation (BMS)

Led by the ever-practical T’chakt, this organization deals with the aftermath of magical incidents. They’re the ones who clean up after a cauldron decides to become a chef, or when a suit of armor develops a sudden interest in philosophy. Their rivalry with the more chaotic M&M team is both professional and personal.

The Unseen Hum

For centuries, residents of the city have grown accustomed to the “hum” - not a sound, but a subtle feeling of background magic that permeates everything. This ever-present energy makes the region incredibly magically potent, but recently, scholars have noticed something troubling: the hum is changing. It’s growing more… whimsical.

Some believe this shift is responsible for the increasing frequency of Mundane & Magical anomalies. Others dismiss such theories as fanciful. But the evidence is mounting: sentient vegetables are becoming more opinionated, dragons are developing social anxiety, and even the furniture is starting to have strong opinions about interior design.

The Current Situation

As our story begins, the M&M Containment Team is about to face their greatest challenge yet. The city is experiencing an unprecedented surge in magical anomalies, and the usual containment procedures are proving insufficient. Something is stirring in the magical fabric of reality itself, and it’s up to our intrepid team of agents to figure out what’s going on before the entire city becomes a chaotic mess of sentient objects and philosophizing dragons.

The stage is set for adventure, mayhem, and the kind of problem-solving that requires equal parts courage, creativity, and the ability to have a serious conversation with a talking cabbage.

“The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.” - Terry Pratchett
